Yesterday we popped to the plot to check our potatoes were covered over in case of frost, what I didn’t expect to see was half the allotment covered in weeds up to our knees and the other half covered in weeds up to our ankles. I was pretty upset actually. I felt quite disappointed in myself for letting it get so bad, but at the same time they seem to be growing so quickly I don’t know where they came from. I also think its hard when you can look around and see everyone elses plots are pristine, no weeds in sight and lovely looking crops already growing.
If i’m honest tonight I was on the verge of sitting on the sofa and watching TV all evening just because I knew that the job in hand was so big. But I knew I had to go to the allotment and make a start and that I would feel better for it. And I was right. A little bit of digging goes a long way when it comes to weeding.
We still have a bit to go, but the worst bit is looking a lot better already. You can see just how many weeds I dug out of this section, they were all massive as well which I think made them easier to pull but harder to stop seed heads from spreading.
To reward my efforts our very kind site holder gave me a HUGE cauliflower to take home. Its the little things (or in this case, the massive things) like this that make me love our allotment!
Looks like I’ll be having cauliflower cheese for tea tomorrow 🙂
